One Station, One Story: How Railways Are Powering India’s Local Pride

Bengaluru | Jan 20 :

The One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative of Indian Railways is quietly redefining the role of railway stations across the country—from transit points to vibrant hubs of culture, commerce and community enterprise.

As of January 19, 2026, OSOP has expanded to 2,002 railway stations, with 2,326 dedicated outlets showcasing region-specific products.

From handloom textiles and traditional sweets to bamboo crafts, pottery and indigenous spices, each station reflects the cultural soul of its geography, offering passengers an authentic local experience.

More significantly, OSOP has emerged as a strong livelihood engine. Since its launch in 2022, the scheme has generated direct economic opportunities for over 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers and small producers, giving them unprecedented access to millions of daily railway passengers—without intermediaries.

Stations like Tenkasi Junction in Tamil Nadu stand testimony to how local heritage can seamlessly integrate with national infrastructure. By blending commerce with culture, OSOP not only preserves fading traditions but also promotes grassroots entrepreneurship and inclusive growth.

More than a retail initiative, OSOP embodies the spirit of “Vocal for Local”, reaffirming Indian Railways’ role as a catalyst for community empowerment while enriching the everyday travel experience of the nation.
